Who We Are

ELCIN was established through the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission (FELM), formerly the Finnish Missionary Society (FMS) that came to plant the seed of Christianity in Namibia 1870. In 1954 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN), formerly known as Evangelical Lutheran Ovambo-Kavango Church (ELOC) known  got her independence from the Finnish Society. The ELCIN, current Presiding Bishop is Dr Shekutaamba Vaino  yaVaino Nambala and Rev Alpo  Enkono as General Secretary.

DOCTRINE

The doctrine upon which ELCIN stand is Jesus Christ, the Word of God as proclaimed in the canonical books of the Old and New Testament, which we believe to be correctly explained by the three (3) ecumenical symbol, namely:

  • The Apostle Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasius Creeds
  • The writings of the Reformation, especially the Catechisms of Dr Martin Luther and the Augsburg Confession.
